Still with only 13 Sisters to support her, she gained permission in 1950 to start her own religious order called \u2018Missionaries of Charity\u2019. Its primary task was to love and care for those persons nobody was prepared to look after.\n

The charity provided food for the needy, ran hospitals, orphanages, schools and youth centres. They also ran shelters for lepers and the dying. \n

In Mother Teresa's words, the sisters cared for \u201cthe hungry, the naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind, the lepers, all those people who feel unwanted, uncared for throughout society, people that have become a burden to society and are shunned by everyone.\u201d\n
